“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved– and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Eph. 2:4-7)
I may sing “Amazing Grace” as I marvel about God’s eternal purpose and kindness. He knew I would sin against Him and that everything within me would be wickedness and a total rejection to Him and His glory. John Piper calls it “a suicidal tendency to enjoy other things”. Still God, because of His great love, planned redemption and made me alive with Christ. And then after He saved me, I keep on failing. Yet, His mercy is so great and abundant, that He continues showing His grace in kindness towards me in Jesus everyd day. The apostle Paul uses the adjective “immesasurable”, meaning the riches of his grace –that grace which saved me and continues to uphold me every day— are indefinitely extensive!
I cry with Paul: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! ” (Rom. 11:33)
“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:38-39)
Now “May my lifesong sing to you”.
